Update on the Garden

The garden is growing, and I am so excited about all the blooms, so I thought I'd update everyone on what is going on in the garden. The meadow in the front yard is filled with yarrow, blue flax, and an excess of larkspur in white, purple, and pink. I also have Gaura 'Whirling Butterflies' that I planted last year, and it has grown exponentially. The spires are constantly have bees hovering on them, and the slightest breeze makes them sway in the wind, creating a beautiful effect. I also have a lavender plant that I put in the ground last year, and this year it has grown enough that I have been using a few sprigs in every bouquet to add a bit of fragrance.

The backyard has many signs of summer emerging including seedlings growing, dahlia tubers, hydrangea blooms forming, and lots of weeds!
The dahlia tubers are breaking through the soil, and are almost ready to be pinched, which is very exciting. I was able to plant some of my own tubers that I had divided from last season's plants. The year before when I tried to divide and save tubers, I stored them in a cardboard box with peat moss and they all dried out. This year I stored them in a plastic bin with peat moss and I saved over 30 tubers which was super exciting for me.

The zinnias are little seedlings right now, but soon they'll explode into massive plants with tons of blooms. The cosmos have been pinched and are sending up branches. I had lots of volunteer cosmos that came up from last year, so I transplanted them and they are doing fabulous.
I planted Floret's 'Snapdragons Sherbet Toned Chantilly Mix' for my first year trying snapdragons. The snapdragons have awesome blooms, but I planted them too far apart, and forgot to pinch most of them. Noted for next year!! I definitely want to expand the color range of the snapdragons as well.
The yarrow in the backyard is doing very well, I have been harvesting from it for the last couple weeks. The yarrow is mostly white, but I planted Floret's 'Summer Berries Yarrow Mix' a couple years ago. Now the plants are quite large, and have beautiful blooms in a variety of pastels. The mix also has long stems which are perfect for arranging with. Yarrow is perfect to put in a garden because it can withstand the heat, and it provides summer color.

I'm super excited for what the summer is going to bring to the garden, and I can't wait to share it with you!
